Here's a secret the pesticide aisle doesn't advertise: mosquitoes are awful at flying. Their top speed is about 1–1.5 mph, and a box-store fan on medium beats that easily. Point an outdoor-rated oscillating fan across your seating area and you get a no-chemical, no-refill exclusion zone — the breeze physically outmuscles them and disperses the CO2 plume they use to find you.
